My Dance Journey

If you’re curious to know more about where and how it all started for me, let me take you back to late 2017…

I’d moved out of home and trekked down to Melbourne, where I was introduced to the concept of pole dancing for the very first time. How? My best friend worked at a dive bar, and over a drink one night, one of her colleagues (a bartender and pole instructor) showed us videos of some mind-blowing, acrobatic pole tricks. The next week, I went to an Open Day at Pole Divas—and never looked back.

Starting Pole With No Dance Background

Before I discovered pole, I’d never had much interest in sports. I’d done a year of youth gymnastics as a kid, and while I really enjoyed cartwheeling and attempting handstands, I talked myself out of continuing as a teenager because I thought I was “too old” (lol).

To sum up my starting point:

But none of that mattered in the slightest, and the pole studio became my gym.

From Tricks to Choreography

When I first started pole, I was addicted to learning tricks—spins, climbs, inverts—and seeing my strength build week after week. A little later, I joined a Russian Flow pole dance course and fell in love with its fluid, weightless style and dancing ‘en pointe’ over the platform heel.

With a new obsession unlocked, I bought a pole for home and began experimenting with choreography and more sensual styles of movement.

My First Pole Competition

In 2019, I entered my first (and only) pole competition: Unleashed. It was both exciting and nerve-wracking… from planning my broken puppet character and rehearsing endlessly, to getting ready backstage and then being in and out of the spotlight in the blink of an eye.

While I didn’t win a sash, my cherished moment was a stranger from the audience letting me know my performance was her favourite of the night. That small but meaningful compliment filled my heart—it meant SO much to know someone connected with my concept and choreography.

I’ve since realised that my favourite part of performing is the creative process—developing new routines, exploring different music, feeling free to enjoy movement without the stress of competing, and sharing that experience with others.

Sharing My Passion Through Teaching

After moving cities and settling in Brisbane, I came to really value the incredible sense of community that pole dancing provides wherever you go. I thought more and more about how I wanted to give back, and help more people experience it for themselves. I earned my instructor certification through Ecole de Pole and began teaching pole tricks and choreography across a few dance studios.

Launching Minx Choreography

With the launch of my own brand, I’m beyond excited to expand the dance classes I teach, starting with sensual, floor-based choreography in Brisbane.

My goal as a dance teacher is to help people of all levels master new skills, build confidence in a supportive environment, and to foster an empowering community where every dancer feels celebrated.

So if you’re second-guessing whether you’re strong enough, coordinated enough, or sexy enough… just *starting* your dance journey might be the best thing you ever do.
